Chinese archers vie for Asian Games squad

Guangzhou, March 9 – The National Archery Team of China kicked off the first round of its selective competition for the upcoming Asian Games at Huangcun Sports Base in Guangzhou yesterday.

Fifty-two archers take part, including Guo Dan, a member of China’s silver-winning Women’s Team at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

Archers to represent China at the Guangzhou Asian Games will be selected through two rounds of competition among teammates at the national level. The second round will be held in July.

Selected athletes will then compete in a series of national and international events, most importantly the Archery World Cup in Ogden in America this August, to warm up for November’s showdown against traditional powerhouse South Korea in Guangzhou, said Tian Yuling, Head Coach of the Chinese Archery Team.

There will be four events for Archery in the 2010 Asiad: Men’s Team, Women’s Team, Men’s Individual and Women’s Individual.
